What is wheat yeast concentrate?
Text

Wheat is a versatile cereal used for various purposes, such as human consumption, fibre and biofuels. The production and processing of wheat result in various co-products, including wheat yeast concentrate.

Wheat co-products are among the most versatile nutrients available. A few examples of these co-products include wheat starch, wheat groats and wheat gluten. These co-products are produced as wheat is processed into foodstuffs, as well as during the production of renewable energy, such as bioethanol. Bioethanol is a form of renewable energy that is produced through the fermentation of organic materials, such as corn, sugarcane and wheat. This production process results in wheat yeast concentrate.

Sustainable & efficient

Using this co-product as feed for pigs, cows and insects allows companies to reduce food waste and material waste. Wheat yeast concentrate not only forms an excellent ration supplement, but replacing other protein sources in animal feed for wheat yeast concentrate also reduces CO2 emissions. As such, using wheat yeast concentrate for animal feed contributes to a more sustainable, efficient and economically responsible food chain.

Storage and shelf life of Wheat yeast concentrate

The wheat yeast concentrate is delivered in batches of 28-35 tonnes using a tanker and should be stored in an acid-proof silo or bunker.

It has an average shelf life of three months. However, the silo used for storage should be cleaned regularly to safeguard the quality of this co-product. Consistency and stability are crucial when it comes to rationing and feeding this product. As such, regular stirring is necessary to avoid sagging and segregation. We therefore recommend using a stirring installation.

Wheat yeast concentrate is a co-product released during the production of bioethanol. This co-product is a valuable supplement to the rations of pigs, cattle and insects, among others.

How is wheat yeast concentrate produced?

The wheat yeast concentrate co-product is released during the production of bioethanol from cereals (including wheat, triticale, corn and/or barley). Yeasts are added to the ground cereals. What are the benefits of wheat yeast concentrate in your rations?

How should wheat yeast concentrate be stored?

Wheat yeast concentrate is delivered by tanker. The co-product should be stored in an acid-proof silo or bunker. To achieve optimal quality and yield, a stirring system to prevent sagging is required. Wheat yeast concentrate has a shelf life of 3 months, as long as the silo or bunker is cleaned regularly.
