Efficient exploitation of co-products as soil improvers

Organic co-products from the food and fermentation industry make a major contribution to closing nutrient and material loops. Co-products that are no longer suitable for bio-based materials and human or animal consumption are ideal for processing into high-quality soil improvers. These soil improvers contribute, for example, to good soil structure and fertile soil.

Soil Improvers for Horticulture and agriculture
Text

Healthy soil is essential for agriculture and horticulture. Soil quality and fertility are declining all over the world. This is partly due to a lack of organic matter and the depletion of essential nutrients in the soil.

Co-products that are no longer suitable for bio-based materials and human or animal consumption are full of nutrients and minerals. By returning these nutrients to the soil, we can improve soil structure, water retention capacity and soil life.

Future-proof circular agriculture

In addition to healthy soil, we contribute in this way to future-proof circular agriculture. Processed and unprocessed organic fertilisers contain, among others, the essential macronutrients Nitrogen (N), Potassium (K) and Phosphorus (P). These are all important to promote good growth. Which is why organic soil improvers are an excellent sustainable supplement and substitute for artificial fertilisers (chemical fertilisers). An additional benefit is that organic fertilisers often have a longer-lasting effect than chemical fertilisers. Looop supplies a variety of organic soil improvers such as compost, digestate, animal manures and mineral concentrates.

Efficient valorization of co-products at Looop.

We assess the value of co-products using the Looop ladder.

Co-products find valorization through various applications, contributing to a circular economy and a sustainable future. Our co-products are high-quality soil enhancers and find value through other forms of revaluation, like other renewables. Want to learn more?

In addition to renewables, our co-products also find new purposes in animal feed, pet food, and as substrates for insects.
