On February 1, 2025, Gert-Jan Hermanussen will join Looop as Head of Procurement. In this new role, he will be responsible for shaping and implementing the company's procurement strategy, which will focus on sustainability and circularity.
As Head of Procurement, Gert-Jan will lead the effort to further professionalize and strengthen the procurement organization. He will focus on building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, optimizing procurement processes, and ensuring an efficient and sustainable supply chain.
The agrifood sector is Gert-Jan's familiar territory. After completing his Animal Sciences degree in Wageningen, he began his career at Hendrix UTD/Nutreco as an advisor in the pig farming sector. In 2004, he transitioned to Procurement, where he spent years sourcing grain by-products from the European milling, starch, and later ethanol industries. Following the acquisition by ForFarmers, he served as Raw Material Director for over 10 years. During his early years at Hendrix UTD/Nutreco, Gert-Jan worked closely with Paul Slits, now CEO of Looop, for nearly a decade. "That collaboration was so successful back then that we always joked, 'One day, we'll work together again!'" says Slits. "It's great that the moment has now arrived, and Gert-Jan is joining Looop."
Gert-Jan is excited to get started and to leverage his knowledge and experience to contribute to a cleaner, fully circular, waste-free world together with the Looop team. “This is a great opportunity to further strengthen partnerships within the existing network and explore new possibilities for scaling up residual flows from the food industry,” says Gert-Jan. “I look forward to being part of a young, dynamic, and ambitious company that focuses on growth and innovation in the circular transformation.”
